Default AB is dead. Why?

Well I guess the threat says it all.

I really like AB but it is dead! I would like to know your opinions about why it is dead.

Several reasons , some more valid than others :
1 - Not enough factions won
2 - Long waiting times
3 - JQ/FA/farming give much more points ( linked to 1)
4 - Some flaws about maps

I do believe though that 1 is probably the only reason it's so dead...

Most people either do MQSC or MTSC if they want their title. The ones that want to do it in a PvP matter, do JQ or FA usually

It's all about the grind. JQ/FA are also fun (more so imo) and are much more rewarding.

you wait an hour to get in then get nothing for losing.

and i haven't been to AB in the last year where it hasn't been on ancestral.

badly designed feature + game being more dead than ever, you're better off forgetting ab exists.

The waiting times are insane. The map is almost always a kurzick one. Also, I think quite a lot of people have maxed out the Kurzick/Luxon titles. If not, then there are certainly better ways of doing it.

I use to love AB, grew up pvp wise in AB so miss it a great deal. It is dead because the ammount of time investment is better spent elsewhere to gain faction. Even JQ when you lose (slightly score dependent) gives double the faction generally.

Plus you dont need to deal with annoying players who think Defy pain is awesome or running around 500 health on a sin is fine.

They really need to bump up the rewards for AB to make it at least double that of JQ as playing as a coordinated team requires skill.

The stagnant maps dont help either.

1. The faction reward is not worth the effort compared to other options.
2. 99.9% of the time its either on A-lands or Grenz
3. Takes forever to get a match.
4. The Kuzick side is a joke.

Personally I think they should up the faction reward and randomize the maps. That would make it bearable to play again.

faction rewards need to be boosted.
Balancing lopsided towards luxons.
Wait times are ridiculous

3 things will fix this, I hope a member of the live team sees this. The first 2 are relatively easy to fix, the last would take a commitment; but I'd be happy with the first two.

Just increase the rewards incrementally until AB has more players. Then tweak NPC stats on different maps. Not just skewing points but how about skewing NPC stats as well? Luxon NPCs in Kurzick lands being a lot weaker and vice versa. It could skew towards perma Saltspray, but that's better than perma Ancestral, and things can be tweaked later if it's really needed.

I agree with the OP. Before SC's were formalized and back when you couldn't get in a JQ match to save your life due to crappy rewards, AB was where it was at.

Given that I still need to VQ and feel unfairly penalized for being a Kurzick, I would like to see this happen.

I guess we all (or almos all) agree that AB is very, i mean, it was very fun to play but thats exactly it... We dont have many rewards, the maps are always the same and we stay like hours waiting to go in... I hope they fix it...

The map never frickin changes from the two Kurz-dominated ones.

Also, now that people can get survivor on their old chars, I'd imagine a lot of people starting at 29/30 titles have given up on maxing Kurzick.

AB declined when JQ got buffed. It's faster, it's easier, it gives more faction, you don't have to form into groups, you can suicide all day and win...

Ah, good old Alliance Battles. I used to play them constantly as my only form of PvP circa 2007. The whole year was pretty good too. It wasn't dead, it wasn't on decline, it was perfect. I miss AB a lot. ANet needs to step in and do something before the only thing left to do is remove AB from the game. They need to do some sort of revamp and give players a reason to go play it, because right now there isn't much of a reason to play it.

Honestly, I think AB should become more like TA was. Everyone in one room, you pick kurz or luxon faction reward as your team. Assignments of blue vs red team random. Random map assignments with the same rewards. You could have 3 luxon earning red teams vs 3 luxon earning blue teams on blue castle map. Best side wins reward, weighted for difficulty.

I think this would fix wait times, map rotation and faction earning. After all, we can pick whichever side in jq or fa. Why not ab? Just the 'alliance' is your randomly assigned team.

Judging by their recent track record with dead pvp arenas, they will fix it by removing it and placing an even more dead arena in it's place. Cuz that worked out so well the last time.

I seriously hope they don´t do that. Errr... I mean it is dead so being there or not being there is almost the same...
